Here we have a real treat for all of you Italiano rally fans. A genuine Autobianchi Abarth (Series 3 - A112A1) that has been meticulously prepared to FIA Group 'A' specification, under FIA homologation number 5064.
Purchased by us from the Italian racing stable Rubicone Corse, this little rally weapon was used in competition throughout the late 80s and early 90s. It was piloted by a Mr Angelo Campedelli, father of the Citroen works WRC driver Simone Campedelli.
Good pedigree wouldn't you agree?!
It has recently undergone a full rebuild. They say pictures speak a thousand words so enjoy the snaps. But we'll give you a brief rundown.
The body has no rust. Not a single orange blemish or bubble anywhere. The Rosso Corse paintwork is factory fresh and looks stunning; inside and out! The condition and quality of the build really has to been seen to be believed.
The drive train is all new with the Group A rally prepared Abarth engine revving freely. The head has been port polished and gas flowed and with a Gozzolli Gr.A camshaft it feels as eager as a Jack Russell Terrier.
Mated to a lightened flywheel and competition clutch, the close ratio 4 speed gearbox with LSD is a joy with no clunks, crunches or any other untoward noise. Moving up through the gears is a riot! All the while being egged on by the screaming Abarth engine.
Suspension utilises competition shocks all round with stiffened front coil springs and rear transverse leaf spring. All of the bushes (arb, drop-links, tie rod ends etc) are all new. The brakes, again are all new with drilled/grooved discs (front) and drums (rear).
The inside looks as good as the exterior. Stripped and fitted with a hefty OMP (6pt) roll bar that been professionally installed with the appropriate hefty box mounts and strengthening plates. 2 Sparco EVO seats and 3 inch (4pt) FIA harnesses ensure the pilot and navigator are held firmly in place.
The dash gauges are a work of art and are all housed in a bespoke rally panel. Fiat Veglia Borletti gauges are all working and are accompanied by a 10,000rpm rev counter taking centre stage.
All in all a superb machine and we firmly believe this is the finest competition A112 Abarth on the market... ANYWHERE! And being an earlier and more desirable pre face-lift model we're this will fly off the shelf.
