We have here at TFC a very special little matching numbers Fiat 124 Coupe.
The BC model which is considered to be the prettiest of all of the 124 range.
Before the 1600 was introduced, the Lampredi Fiat engine was 'oversquare' in it's design. Meaning a larger bore compared with the stroke.
The 1600 Sport model had a perfectly balanced 1608cc twin cam engine. The combination of 80mm bore and 80mm stroke, twin Weber IDF carburettors and sport camshafts allowed for a high revving engine. Hence the 9000rpm tacho.
This particular example is presented well, with zero rust and a fresh, bright paint job in Rosso Red.
The body is very straight with good panel gaps. A nice set of original Cromodora CD5 alloy wheels complete the look.
The engine is peach. A recent compression test shows almost 200psi across all 4 cylinders.
Nice and free revving these 1608cc twin cams really do benefit from the fine balancing and with those twin Weber IDF carburettors on song it sounds great.
The interior is stunning with a veritable retro feast of Veglia gauges. The 9,000rpm tacho, synonymous with the 1600 Sport sits there ready to go! The black vinyl seats show little signs of wear and have some nice textured inserts. The 5 speed gearbox has a crisp change and the clutch is good.
Inside there is room for 4 adults and a sizeable trunk to carry 2 suitcases this is a practical classic with that typical 70s Italian flair and that Lamdredi twincam begging to be driven.
Fiat really did get it right with the 1600 Sport.
A true retro automotive delight!
